Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963, to the musically inclined family of Newark New Jersey is the daughter of Gospel star Cissy Houston as well as John Russell Houston Jr. They are also cousins of the singer Dionne Warwick. The mother of Whitney Houston and her daughter began to sing professionally together at the New Hope Baptist Church of Newark at the age of 15 years old. They sang the backing vocals for Chaka Khans 1978 track Im Every Woman. In 1981, she worked as a fashion model and appeared on the Seventeen Cover. She also performed back vocals for Lou Rawls and Jermaine. The vocals she sang with the band from New York Material have attracted record companies of all sizes, including Arista. The label signed her to Arista in 1983 and spent the remainder of her professional career. Whitney Houston was her debut album. Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album by the debut artist. Several hit singles including the hit songs Saving All My Love For You How Do I know That You Love Me and The Most Beautiful Love of All were released from the album, setting her up to smash the Beatles record with seven consecutive US top 10s. The album debuted in 1987, and it sold over 25 million copies across the globe. The 1987 follow-up album Whitney featuring the hit songs Where Do Broken Hearts Go and I Wanna Dance With Somebody built on her success but it was 1992's film The Bodyguard (1992) that made her one of the most successful artists ever. Though the movie was not well-received and neither was her performance, the soundtrack to her Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You reached the number one spot on both singles and albums charts in America for a period of time. The album sold over 44 million copies. It was also in 1993 that she was married to Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition artist with whom she bore her only child Bobbi Kristina Brown. It was around this time and, by 1996, she had become a regular user.
